Hot PINK

I didn't try to do the olympic knitting because I knew work would be too crazy to knit a lot and it was. Work kicked my butt this week, which is sad cause it was a short work.

Anyway, I did finish my first sockapaloooza sock. I'll post a picture next week. I also started a hot pink mohair fingerless glove. I lost my black pair, or least they might be in a friend's car. I happened on hot pink mohair on sale last weekend and couldn't resist, it is so fabulous.

7, 8, 9

I attempted to read Delta Wedding by Eudora Welty and couldn't finish it. I'll try to read some of her short stories later this year. Maybe it is better in smaller doses and I just couldn't handle a large swath of Eudora Welty.

I did finish three other books in the past week:

So Many Books, So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading by Sara Nelson. This book was one woman's account of her reading over one year. She left out some books, but it was interesting reading how someone chose books, how she read them and what she thought of them. It also gave me some ideas of what I should try reading.

Truth and Beauty by Ann Patchett is really great book. I can't say enough about this book, it was a book that I couldn't put down, but it also made me think about the way I live my life. Ann Patchett is easily one of my favorite writers and she wrote a beautiful book about her friendship with Lucy Grealy, a famous writer in her own right, who struggled with the loss of her jaw and how it affected her life, physically and emotionally. It made me think about my own struggle with loneliness and self-image. At her best Grealy was an inspiration to all, at her worst an anti-drug commercial and the relationship between Patchett and Grealy enforces the idea that the love of a lifetime is not necessarily a romantic one.

The Nanny Diaries: A Novel by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus was a fun read and took my mind off work on the way to and from it. It also helped me wile away a depressing Friday night.

This is much better now, right? This is the waving lace pattern from Interweave. I think this pattern is going to look really nice, I just hope it's not too small.

quick update

Blogger is being very slow tonight, but I wanted to note that the socks were ripped out last night. My friend Sarah seems to think if I knit it looser or tighter the pooling might go away, so I'll give it another go with a different pattern. The way I'm knitting these socks can accurately describe my personality because I can never make up my mind or settle on one thing.

Also, the wine that the wine store guy suggested I buy is really yummy. I love the cute wine store down the street. Yes, it was a very long day.

Here's the other side of the sock with the pooling on the other side. Should I really just start over with a new pattern or keep going. I wanted to finish this sock as part of my Olympic spectator knitting, but I don't think that will happen now. What should I do?

So here's the sock and you can see the faint line of pooling. The lace looks very nice, but the pooling bothers me. I don't really know what to do about it.

indecisive socks

I am halfway through the leg portion of sockapaloooza sock and the pattern looks lovely, but it is pooling. If the sock was for myself I would just let it pool, but it is not for me and I am tempted to rip it all back and start a new pattern. I am trying to wait to get a second opinion from one of my knitting friends, unfortunately this can't happen until at least tomorrow. I am snowed in and have no digital camera so I can't send out a picture. I guess I'll try that tomorrow from work, cause I don't think we'll be knitting Monday night.

socks

Today after work I stopped by Seaport yarns to get my sock yarn. I splurged and got really yummy Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn in variegated blues. It is going to be so fun to make my sockpal socks. I am winding it tonight and will start when the olympics start. I'm not participating the olympic knitathon, I'll just be knitting on the sidelines.

Vera and socks

My boss always calls me funny names and one she has used a couple of times is Rosemary. This week I told her that I'm not Rosemary, I am Vera, Vera Ellen. This is also not my real name, but I cannot be Rosemary, as I'm not matronly.
